In 1965 straight from school I worked in a solicitors office, becoming an Associate of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1972. in 1996 I qualified as a Fellow of ILEX (crime, family, tort, family practice). In 1998 I was elected to the national council of ILEX and two years later was elected Vice President Elect. This followed promotion to Vice President and in July 2006 I was elected President. During my time on council I had many meetings with the Lord Chancellor, Lord Chief Justice, High Court judges, government ministers and the seniors of the Law Society and Bar Council.
